Deep Analysis
The execution by Alden Nowlan

This is a poem of a reverend named Press. He was mistaken for a man who was to be executed, hung by the neck until dead. No one recognized him as the reverend. In the end they hung him. I am not sure why I like this poem enough to put it number three. It is spine chilling to put oneself in his shoes. It would be unimaginably scary to be in Press's situation.

Alden used imagery:

The lights were so bright
I couldn't see the faces
of men sitting
opposite.

He also used alliteration:

On the night of the execution
a man at the door
mistook me for the coroner.
